Nine countries, one goal - Samso
Video
Making the video
This video is one of a series of four made as part of the launch of the EU’s strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The films present projects taking place in Lithuania, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, co financed by the European Commission.
Self sufficient Samso
Residents on the island Samso, off Denmark, are justifiably pleased with themselves – they are energy sufficient. 100% of the electricity supplying the island, and 70% of its heating, comes from renewable sources. European Regional Development Funds, which helped pay for the island’s Energy Academy (Energi Akademiet), are helping Samso lead the way in renewables. The Academy engages with the local population and visitors, showing how self sufficiency can be more than a pipe dream. It is also home to scientific research in the field.
