Torture is unacceptable

About the video
Torture affects thousands of people in about 100 countries around the world. Although numerous countries have already ratified the United Nations Convention in support of victims of torture, this practice continues to spread in many countries. Increasingly sophisticated methods are being used, leaving victims, their families and even entire parts of some societies deeply traumatised.
All European Union countries oppose torture and have been fighting together for 15 years to put an end to it and to help victims resume a normal life. This is why the European Union is financing projects around the world to make torture a thing of the past. These projects are being run by the European Commission within the framework of the European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights.
About the project
DG EuropeAid: Torture is unacceptable
Campaign
Description
Determined to make torture a thing of the past, the European Union actively took part in the “International Day in Support of Victims of Torture” on June 26. Different tools (video clip, radio spot, photos, leaflets, posters, etc.) were produced in various official EU languages to inform the general public about the day. The aim was to make the public aware of the fact that torture still exists and that the European Commission supports many projects which fight against torture and support its victims.
EuropeAid’s mission is to implement the Commission's external aid instruments which are financed by the Community budget and the European Development Funds. By working in close cooperation with civil society, international organisations and governments of EU Member States, EuropeAid promotes good governance, human and social development, security and migration, and natural resources.
