Making the video
With the aim of presenting the benefits of standardisation, this video contains four thematic reports covering different aspects of standardisation. The first clip is an introduction explaining the importance of standardisation. The three other reports present three success stories of SMEs and their role in making and/or using standards. A conference to celebrate World Standards Day is organised every year by the European Commission Enterprise & Industry DG. This video was shown for the first time during the World Standards Day 2008 Conference.

Standardisation is the process of voluntary cooperation among industry, consumers, public authorities and other interested parties for the development of technical specifications based on consensus. Standards are everywhere. They have a major impact not only on sectors such as construction, research and trade, but also on our private life and leisure activities.
